Getting There
Ready to head to Old San Juan? Great! Getting there is easy, and there are several options to choose from depending on your location.
If you’re flying into Puerto Rico, you can catch a taxi or an Uber from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. The ride to Old San Juan is only about 20 minutes, so you’ll be there in no time! Alternatively, you can rent a car and drive yourself to Old San Juan.
If you’re coming from other parts of the island, taking a shuttle service or public bus is a great option.
What to Do and Why Visit
As you step into Old San Juan (THE San Juan Neighborhood) the first landmarks to catch your eye are the imposing forts that stand guard over the city.
El Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal are like time machines, taking you back to the 16th century. You can explore tunnels and dungeons, climb up to garitas (sentry boxes), and imagine the soldiers who once stood watch. And yes, you can even pose for pictures with the original cannons!
As you stroll through the blue cobblestone streets, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a movie set.
The stunning pastel-colored buildings are a feast for the eyes, and you’ll see how they blend perfectly with cultural landmarks and striking monuments. It’s like a symphony of architecture, with Spanish, African, and indigenous Taíno cultures all playing a part.
There are plenty of walking tours available, but if you are with a group and looking for something unique, I recommend joining in on this Old San Juan Murder Mystery Tour! It sounds like a super fun activity!
And don’t think for a second that Viejo San Juan is just for history buffs. When shopping for souvenirs, you’ll find everything from handcrafted goods to fine jewelry and even cigars and rum!

Isla Verde
Isla Verde is the perfect place for a luxurious vacation—you’ll never be bored here! It boasts some of the best beaches in Puerto Rico, amazing restaurants for all tastes, and a lively nightlife.
Getting There
Located in the town of Carolina, Isla Verde is a beautiful beachfront neighborhood just a short drive away from the airport.
It is also just next to the airport, so you can take a taxi or a shuttle to your hotel or destination. If you have a rental car or are driving your own vehicle, you can take the Baldorioty de Castro Expressway (PR-26) or the Avenida Isla Verde to reach Isla Verde.
If you’re on a budget, the T5 bus line runs from Old San Juan to Isla Verde and stops at major hotels and attractions.
What to Do and Why Visit
Tourists flock to Isla Verde to experience its wonderful beaches! You can relax on powdery white or golden sand and take a dip in crystal-clear waters.
It offers a plethora of thrilling water-based activities to try out, from snorkeling to explore the vivid coral reefs to parasailing, surfing, kayaking, and more. There’s something for everyone who loves water sports, making it the perfect destination for adventurous travelers.
The neighborhood is also famous for its buzzing nightlife scene, with plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants to explore. It’s so easy to hop from one spot to another if you want to party all night!
Note that Casa BACARDÍ is located just a short drive from Isla Verde and offers tours of the facility and tastings of their delicious rums. I highly recommend setting aside time to visit their distillery!

Condado – One Of The Most Underrated San Juan Neighborhoods
Condado is a neighborhood in San Juan, Puerto Rico, located on the northeast coast of the island. The beaches are beautiful, the place is luxurious, and it is just overall charming!
Getting There
As with getting into Isla Verde, you can reach Condado by car from the airport. The ride will just take about 15 minutes in total.
If you are going to use public transportation, note that the T5 bus runs from the airport to Condado and stops at several locations along the way, including Isla Verde, Miramar, and Old San Juan. Shuttle services and private transfers are also available for a fee.
Once you’re in Condado, you can easily explore the neighborhood on foot or by bike. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also readily available for getting around the neighborhood.
What to Do and Why Visit
Condado is known for its upscale resorts, boutique hotels, and trendy restaurants, which attract visitors who want to experience the best of Puerto Rico’s food, music, and entertainment.
It is also a great destination for those interested in history and culture, with attractions like the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and La Placita located nearby.
One of the main draws of Condado is its beaches, which are some of the most beautiful in Puerto Rico. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.
After a day of paddleboarding or beach yoga, head to one of the many clubs that stay open until the early morning! But don’t worry if clubbing isn’t your thing; there are plenty of other options for entertainment, such as live music venues and rooftop bars.
Condado also has an array of boutiques and artisanal stores that showcase local designers and artists. Walk down tree-lined streets filled with funky cafes and unique shops selling handmade jewelry, clothing, and home decor items!

With its clean, quiet atmosphere, Ocean Park is great for couples looking for some downtime as well as families seeking a peaceful beach vacation.
Miramar appeals to well-heeled foodies!
The neighborhood of Miramar exudes charm and affluence. In fact, it is renowned for its upscale dining scene, making it an attractive destination for well-heeled foodies.

Want to save some cash and avoid the crowds? Consider traveling to San Juan during the off-season, which runs from June to November. You’ll enjoy lower prices and fewer crowds at attractions and beaches.
2. Don’t Go Mindlessly into La Perla
La Perla is a historic neighborhood in San Juan, but it’s also known for its association with drug-related violence. If you want to check it out, it’s best to go with a tour guide or be cautious and respectful if you venture there on your own.
3. Explore the Island’s Caves
Want to do something a little different? Check out Puerto Rico’s amazing network of caves, such as Cueva Ventana and Cueva del Indio. You’ll get a chance to explore the island’s natural beauty in a unique way. Just remember to wear appropriate clothing and bring a flashlight or a headlamp!
