Key West is renowned for its stunning beaches and turquoise ocean, with many couples intending to spend their honeymoons there and searching for the best romantic things to do in Key West. Key West offers everything, from hot dates on the beach to discovering caves in the water to snorkeling on coral reefs to old and haunted buildings – literally everything your heart could desire.

I remember the first time I went to Key West and buried my feet in the hot sand upon the turquoise blue water in front of me, taking a deep breath of the ocean breeze while soaking in the sun. 

That part alone will make you feel like you’re on a honeymoon (even if you’re not!). Key West is a great experience for anyone in a relationship or those of you who just want to take yourself out on a romantic vacay.

Key West is one of my favorite places in Florida, as it has its unique way of combining the romantic historic flair with modern-day luxuries. It’s basically everything your heart could desire.

Once you have decided to go on your romantic getaway, the most common question is, “What will we do while we are there?There is no need to worry about it. I have 10 of the best romantic things to do in Key West for all budgets.

There is no doubt that a trip to Key West could drain your bank account, but it doesn’t have to. Romance doesn’t have to cost a thing; in fact, there are endless things you can do with your special someone that is both romantic and free – Perfect for anyone’s wallet.

1. Take a romantic walk along the waterfront and watch the sunset over the ocean.

Alright, movie star—it’s time for that romantic movie moment with your significant other. Just imagine the sea breeze in your hair, walking hand-in-hand with the one you love as the sun is setting over the water. The most intimate and romantic of the free things to do in Key West.

2. Walk the famous Duval Street 

Key West’s Duval Street is the epicenter of Key West nightlife. It has everything you could ask for, from restaurants and bars to shopping and free shows. By taking a walk here with your partner, you are sure to find something fun to see and do around every corner! 

3. Explore the Historic District 

Combined with 18th to 20th-century houses and magical gardens, lies Old Town – aka Key West Historic District. Here you will be architecturally transported back in time as you stroll hand in hand around all the historic homes, buildings, and gardens.

4. Mallory Square Sunset Celebrations

Sitting west of Key West, you will find Mallory Square. This historic area provides the best sunset views around. You can go here any day of the week to see a sunset and enjoy live street entertainment – Make sure to check what time sunset is here

5. Browse art museums and antique shops 

Browsing Key West’s many art museums and antique shops is a pastime enjoyed by many. You will find many antique shops around Key West, but some of the local favorites include 90 Miles to Cuba, Ducks & Dolphins, and In One Era. Whichever one you pick to visit, or all 3, you are sure to spot some unique and interesting finds!

If you are looking for something to do outside of the center of Key West for your romantic vacay, there are many options. 

6. Day Trip To Dry Tortugas National Park

Located about 70 miles away from key west and only accessible by seaplane or boat, it’s the perfect getaway spot for a romantic day trip. Here you can be transported back in time as you learn about this gem of history. 

If you want to get a bit physical, how about going swimming or snorkeling in the picturesque clear blue water? Go ahead and explore the magnificent marine life and coral reefs. Whatever you do at this beautiful park, it will definitely be a romantic getaway to remember.

7. Snorkeling in Key Largo

Want to change up your usual date spot, then how about trying an underwater date? Snorkeling in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary is the perfect way to do just that. Don’t have any snorkeling experience? Not to worry. This activity is totally beginner friendly. You and your boo are bound to have a romantic undersea experience.

Want to feel like you’re in high school again? After all, there is nothing sweeter than that puppy dog first love. Then you have to try a good ol’ fashion mini golf date. Enjoy cuddling up together to get that perfect hole-in-one. Or let your competitive side out and have fun teasing and bantering with each as you make your way to victory.

After mini golf, don’t forget to enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants in Ramrod Key. After all, the winner deserves their victory dinner.

If you really want a romantic getaway away from your children, then Bungalows Key Largo is a great option. This resort is adults-only (21+) and all-inclusive, giving you the time you need to focus on the romance part of your romantic getaway.
